Sharp Consultancy AAT Evening
On Tuesday 15th October Sharp Consultancy were kindly invited to support the AAT to host a workshop for all of the regions local members. Lees Hall Golf Club provided the venue and Sharp Consultancy’s James Reed, Matt Civil and Nabarun Dasgupta delivered a presentation centered around CV-writing followed by a session that explored the best way to conduct yourself in an interview. The audience was made up of AAT students in the early stages of their studies right through to fully fledged AAT members. The interactive nature of the evening meant the team were able to cater for the needs of everyone in attendance despite varying levels of experience.
The first topic that was covered was “CV writing techniques”. During this session the team opened up the floor for the student’s to discuss what they believed would make a great CV and what things they thought should be avoided.
The team followed up this discussion by presenting a “model CV” that students were able to take away and use as a template for their own CV’s. The handout showed how to structure a CV and how to convey personal experiences in the most effective way possible. The team used their combined years’ of experience in recruitment to give the audience some useful tips to make their CV really stand out from the crowd.
One of the most interesting points of discussion was the common pitfalls many people make when CV writing. It was a real eye opener for both those at the start of their career and more so for the more experienced members attending the event!
The second half of the presentation focused on the interview process. The team explained how the interview process begins a long time before you reach the interview room. Attendees’ were asked how they had previously prepared for interviews and were given the chance to share their own ideas and learn from each other. This section of the presentation was met with a number of excellent questions that the team were able to answer accordingly. There were some attendees who hadn’t needed to interview for over 30 years’ and some who had never interviewed before which made for an interesting discussion.
The evening ended with a Q&A session giving attendees the chance to ask the team about anything they were still unsure about. The audience were willing participators and their interaction with the team meant no stone was left un-turned. It was a highly enjoyable and useful evening for all of those involved. Sharp Consultancy would like to thank Jonathan Mace at the AAT for the invitation and Lees Hall Golf Club for their excellent catering and hospitality. The Sharp team are already looking forward to sharing more exciting insights with the group throughout the coming months.
