SHEREEN AYUB NAMED YOUNG ACCOUNTANT OF THE YEAR
Shereen Ayub from PwC has been awarded the prestigious Sharp Consultancy Young Accountant of the Year accolade for 2020. The award was presented to Shereen at a glittering awards ceremony held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
The competition was established in 2000 and is run by the financial recruitment specialists Sharp Consultancy in conjunction with the West Yorkshire Society of Chartered Accountants. The awards recognise the best of the region’s accountants who are either training to be qualified or have been qualified for up to two years.
Candidates for the title are nominated by their employers and having been shortlisted along with five other finalists, Shereen excelled in each of the assessment areas during a panel interview with the judges. In selecting the overall winner, the judges took into account a range of criteria including each finalist’s commitment to their chosen career and how they demonstrated the qualities needed to succeed in the future.
Lee Sweeney, regional director at Sharp Consultancy added: “This year’s celebrations held extra significance as it marked the 20th anniversary of the competition. Shereen is the latest in an impressive line of winners – we could never have imagined when we first established Young Accountant of the Year in 2000 that two decades later we would still witness the bar being raised year by year.”
Tom Rylands of KPMG was named runner-up with Rob Hainsworth of Deloitte taking third place. The other finalists were Tom Farnhill (RSM UK), Lauren Devenish (EY) and Rebecca Dawson (Garbutt & Elliott).
