Financial Controller

Job description

Our client is a leading manufacturer and supplier of high quality industrial materials, with a strong and long established presence across the South Yorkshire region. As the business continues to scale, they are now seeking a technically strong and commercially astute Financial Controller to assume full ownership of a key regional division.

Operating through an extensive distribution network and supported by state of the art manufacturing facilities across South Yorkshire, the organisation is entering a period of accelerated growth. The next few years will see the business deliver on clearly defined expansion plans, underpinned by a strategic focus on strengthening operational alignment across multiple sites and business units. Alongside this, the company is deepening its commitment to sustainable manufacturing, investing in initiatives that enhance resource efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and directly inform future product innovation.

This position represents an exceptional opportunity for a technically strong finance leader to take end to end ownership of a sizeable and strategically important business unit. You will hold full responsibility for financial reporting, controls, and performance, while also contributing to the organisation’s wider growth agenda — including acquisition planning, integration activity, and the development of robust risk management frameworks. For an ambitious finance professional, this role offers genuine influence, visibility, and the platform to shape the evolution of a fast growing local manufacturing organisation.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the end‑to‑end production, review, and analysis of financial reports, ensuring accuracy, robust commentary, and timely delivery to support operational performance management

  • Provide forward‑looking strategic financial insights to the senior leadership team, helping to shape operational decision‑making

  • Oversee the preparation, review, and sign‑off of statutory accounts, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory requirements across a complex, multi‑site organisation

  • Build and maintain strong, influential relationships across the organisation, collaborating closely with operational leaders, group stakeholders, and external advisors — including tax, legal, and audit partners — to ensure cohesive, well‑informed financial stewardship

  • Maintain expert knowledge of evolving legislation and regulatory requirements, safeguarding full compliance across VAT, tax, financial reporting, and wider statutory obligations, and proactively advising stakeholders on emerging risks

  • Drive continuous improvement across financial systems and processes, identifying opportunities to enhance accuracy, transparency, control, and speed of reporting, and leading the implementation of process and systems changes that support the business’s growth and sustainability agenda

  • Lead significant project‑based work, including the preparation of R&D tax claims and other initiatives that support investment, innovation, and expansion

  • Monitor external market, regulatory, and economic developments, providing high‑level analysis and strategic recommendations that inform planning, acquisition activity and risk management

  • Act as a trusted strategic partner to the executive leadership team, ensuring that robust financial insight and informed analysis of internal and external factors underpin the organisation’s continued growth and evolution

Person specification:

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA Qualified
