Assistant Financial Controller

​Sharp Consultancy are delighted to be partnering with a growing independent services organisation in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, as they look to appoint an ambitious Assistant Financial Controller. This newly created position has arisen due to internal progression and offers the opportunity to work closely with an experienced Financial Controller, supporting the leadership of a developing finance function.

This is a broad and engaging role, ideal for someone who is technically strong, newly qualified or ready to take the next step in their career. You will gain hands‑on exposure across key areas of finance, including the preparation and presentation of month‑end board reporting, coordination of cashflow forecasting and building strong working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders as a genuine business partner.

Key highlights to include:

  • Salary between £50,000 - £55,000

  • Flexible Start and Finish times

  • 25 days AL + 8 BH

Duties and responsibilities to include:

  • Support month‑end and year‑end processes, assisting in the timely and accurate delivery of all financial close activities.

  • Prepare and present comprehensive month‑end board packs for the Senior Leadership Team, providing clear analysis and insight to support informed decision‑making.

  • Assist in the coordination of cashflow forecasting and reporting, ensuring the business maintains robust visibility of short‑ and long‑term liquidity.

  • Prepare month‑end journals, including the accurate collation of prepayments, accruals, and other adjustments.

  • Contribute to tax compliance and external audit requirements, ensuring all schedules, evidence and submissions are delivered to the highest standard.

  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations to maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial information.

  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement, supporting the continuous development of financial controls and efficiency.

  • Act as a trusted business partner to operational teams, providing insight, highlighting risks, and driving operational and financial efficiencies.

  • Support subsidiary reporting activities, ensuring consistent, compliant and timely reporting.

  • Contribute to the development of the finance function, including the delegation and review of tasks where appropriate to support team capability and progression.

Person Specification:

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA Qualified.
