Cost Accountant

​Sharp Consultancy are recruiting for a well-established, forward-thinking manufacturing business based in Rotherham with a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and operational excellence.

As part of this journey, they are looking to appoint an experienced Cost Accountant to strengthen the finance function and play a pivotal role from an operational standpoint in driving performance, efficiency, and informed decision-making across the organisation.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Cost Accountant will take ownership of all aspects of product costing, cost control, and financial analysis relating to manufacturing operations.

This is a commercially focused role requiring close collaboration with production, engineering, procurement, and senior leadership teams.

You will be instrumental in ensuring accurate cost reporting, improving margin visibility, and identifying opportunities to enhance profitability and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and review standard costing models across all product lines.

  • Analyse manufacturing variances (labour, material, overheads) and provide clear commentary.

  • Conduct detailed margin analysis and identify areas for improvement.

  • Support pricing decisions with accurate cost data and financial insight.

  • Work closely with production and operations teams to understand cost drivers.

  • Challenge existing processes and recommend cost-saving initiatives.

  • Produce weekly and monthly cost reports for senior management.

  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation, including WIP and finished goods.

  • Support month-end close processes with a focus on manufacturing-related entries.

  • Maintain robust financial controls within the costing and inventory processes.

  • Support the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasts.

  • Monitor performance against budget and provide variance analysis.

  • Assist in long-term financial planning and scenario modelling.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Fully qualified (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or equivalent experience.

  • Significant experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.

  • Strong understanding of standard costing, BOMs, and variance analysis.

  • Experience working with ERP systems.
