Project Accountant

Job description

​Sharp Consultancy are working with a growing engineering and manufacturing business in Rotherham to recruit a Project Accountant.

This is a hands-on role supporting projects from start to finish. You will track project performance, ensure costs are accurately recorded, support invoicing, and work closely with teams across the business — including spending time on the production floor to understand project progress.

Finance experience is not essential, as full training will be provided. The key requirement is strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Experience within a contractor, production or manufacturing background would be highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track projects from initiation through to completion.

  • Assist in the investigation of budget vs actual variances on projects.

  • Calculate and validate project accrued and deferred costs.

  • Develop and provide analysis and reports to internal stakeholders.

  • Review and report on retention balances.

  • Support the month-end close process.

  • Work closely with the production floor to monitor bought-in parts cost variances.

  • Support the production of project invoices and charges.

  • Maintain accurate project documentation and cost tracking.

About You

  • Strong organisational and coordination skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Confident working with teams on the production floor .

  • Experience in a contracting, production or manufacturing environment (desirable).

  • Proactive and hands-on approach.

  • Good Excel skills.

  • Finance background not required.
