Financial Controller

Job description

​An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and driven Financial Controller to join a dynamic and growing Tech business in Leeds. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and strategic value of the company’s financial operations. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day financial reporting, planning, compliance, and process improvement, while leading a finance team and engaging with senior stakeholders across the business.

  • Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with accounting standards (e.g., IFRS).

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Lead the annual budgeting cycle and produce regular reforecasts.

  • Monitor performance against budget and provide insightful variance analysis.

  • Design and maintain effective financial controls to ensure compliance and protect company assets.

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements.

  • Deliver financial insights to support commercial decision-making and long-term strategic initiatives.

  • Partner with business leaders to evaluate investments, projects, and cost initiatives.

  • Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering continuous development and high performance.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations including AP/AR, general ledger, and payroll (as applicable).

  • Identify and implement improvements in finance processes, systems, and reporting tools.

  • Drive automation and efficiency across the finance function.

  • Present financial performance and forecasts to senior management and the board.

  • Serve as a key liaison with auditors, banks, and other external partners.

Ideally you will be able to demonstrate the below qualifications/experience:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).

  • Strong experience in financial accounting, reporting, and business partnering.

  • Proven ability to lead and develop a finance team.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

  • Strong analytical skills with commercial awareness.

  • Experience in financial systems and process improvement initiatives.
