Financial Controller

Job description

​We are currently recruiting a Financial Controller for a retail / ecommerce business in Bradford. As Financial Controller, you will report into the Finance Director and oversee day-to-day financial operations while leading process improvements, strengthening internal controls, and providing commercial insight to senior leadership. This is a hands-on role with wide-ranging responsibility, ideal for someone looking to make a meaningful impact in a mid-sized, fast-paced retail business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage the finance team of 5 including AP, AR, and Finance Manager

  • Deliver timely, accurate financial information to support decision-making across the business

  • Business partner across departments and overcome limitations of legacy reporting systems using advanced Excel and Power Query

  • Oversee monthly management accounts, board packs, and cashflow forecasting

  • Coordinate and support external audit preparation and delivery

  • Handle multi-currency accounting, VAT/duty compliance, and contractual invoicing

  • Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies alongside stock control team

  • Produce detailed budgets by product area, territory, and cost centre with ongoing variance reporting

  • Review and improve finance processes and workflows to increase efficiency and maintain control

  • Support training and skills development across the finance team

Ideally you will be able to demonstrate the below qualifications/experience:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)

  • Experience in retail, ecommerce, or a consumer products environment

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, owner-led business with evolving systems

  • Strong technical and commercial accounting skills

  • Advanced Excel and data manipulation capability (Power Query, pivot tables, etc.)

  • Excellent people leadership and cross-functional communication skills
