Financial Controller

Job description

​We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our growing finance team in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to take ownership of the financial management function and contribute to the strategic direction of the business.

As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, management accounting, and compliance, while working closely with senior management to drive business performance and growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and statutory financial statements

  • Oversee the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors

  • Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital optimization

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements

Management Accounting:

  • Develop and maintain robust budgeting and forecasting processes

  • Provide detailed variance analysis and business performance insights

  • Support strategic decision-making with financial modeling and analysis

  • Implement and improve financial controls and procedures

Team Leadership:

  • Line manage and develop the finance team

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all financial transactions

  • Drive process improvements and system enhancements

  • Support month-end and year-end closing procedures

Business Partnering:

  • Work closely with department heads to provide financial insights

  • Support commercial decision-making and business case development

  • Contribute to strategic planning and business development initiatives

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Accountant: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years post-qualified experience in a similar role

  • Technical Skills: Advanced Excel proficiency and experience with accounting software (Sage, Xero, or similar)

  • Leadership: Proven experience managing and developing finance teams

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Analytical: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in [industry sector] or similar commercial environment

  • Knowledge of tax compliance and VAT regulations

  • Experience with ERP systems implementation or optimization

  • Part-qualified or qualified in management accounting (CIMA)

  • Experience with financial system integrations and process automation
