Finance Assistant

Job description

​Our client is a well known organisation located just outside York. They are seeking a capable Finance Assistant to join and support their wider Finance Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out account reconciliations, post journals and prepare reports for key stakeholders.

  • Process intercompany transactions.

  • Track departmental spend and produce reports for budget owners.

  • Submit payments through the banking platform, including BACS files and ad hoc transfers.

  • Provide cover for the purchase ledger function during staff leave.

  • Maintain accurate invoice records, preparing and issuing invoices as required.

  • Manage customer queries and disputes, while actively following up outstanding payments.

  • Support invoice authorisation processes and respond to approval queries.

  • Reconcile refundable deposits and handle related enquiries.

  • Assist with data collection and the preparation of management accounts.

  • Monitor shared inboxes and deliver support to both internal and external customers via phone.

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience in a finance or accounts environment is advantageous.

  • Good understanding of basic accounting practices and financial terminology.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (including formulas and functions).

  • Familiarity with Sage accounting software is beneficial but not essential.

  • Confident, professional telephone manner.

  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Collaborative approach and positive team mindset.

  • AAT Level 3 or higher is desirable.
