Manufacturing Accountant

​Sharp Consultancy is partnering exclusively with a well-established manufacturing company that is seeking a Manufacturing Accountant for a newly created position.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a traditional manufacturing environment, supported by a wider group, with the business generating around £15 million in revenue.

The role is hands-on, focusing on work-in-progress, cost analysis, and production reporting, providing critical insights to both the Finance Manager and Production Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate and actionable daily, weekly, and monthly production and financial reports.

  • Translate production and financial data into KPIs that inform shop floor operations and management decisions.

  • Take an active role in job costing, standard costing, and variance analysis.

  • Monitor and improve visibility of WIP and inventory, supporting cash and materials control.

  • Deliver cost analysis to support operational teams in improving margins and efficiency.

  • Analyse labour, material, overheads, and machine utilisation to identify potential savings.

  • Contribute to month-end close processes and management account preparation.

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Drive profitability, production efficiency, and robust financial controls across the business.

About You:

  • Experienced in production or management accounting within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

  • Professionally qualified (CIMA / ACCA) or qualified by experience — practical ability is key.

  • Strong understanding of cost flows in a factory, including materials, labour, overheads, and WIP.

  • Comfortable working alongside production teams and translating figures into commercial insights.

  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to identifying inefficiencies and improving margins.

  • Confident using accounting systems and Excel for reporting and analysis.

  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a busy manufacturing setting.

  • Committed to accuracy and delivering work that has a tangible impact on decision-making.
