Financial Controller

Job description

​We are seeking a commercially astute and strategic Financial Controller to ensure accurate financial reporting, drive strategic decision-making in collaboration with senior leadership team, and maintain strong financial governance across the business.

Act as a key advisor to the executive team, the Financial Controller will provide high-level financial insight to guide the development of financial and commercial thinking across the business. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned finance professional to make a meaningful impact in a fast-paced, evolving business environment.

Key responsibilities will include;

  • Provide high-quality financial insight to support operational decisions, commercial bids, and long-term planning

  • Lead the production of monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts, including project profitability and cost analysis

  • Manage cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and working capital across multiple live and pipeline projects

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, CIS (Construction Industry Scheme), VAT, and HMRC regulations

  • Partner closely with commercial and project delivery teams to improve financial reporting, control project costs, and maximise margins

  • Drive improvements in financial systems, processes, and controls as the business continues to scale

  • Lead and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering continuous improvement and development

  • Oversee external relationships with auditors, banks, and other key stakeholders

  • Support financial due diligence and integration activity for potential acquisitions

Ideally you will be able to demonstrate the below qualifications/experience:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior finance role, ideally within the construction, civil engineering, or infrastructure sectors

  • Strong technical accounting and commercial finance skills

  • Proven track record of working within a project-based environment, with understanding of WIP, cost-to-complete forecasting, and margin analysis

  • Experience of working with CIS, VAT compliance, and job costing systems

  • Confident communicator able to influence across site, commercial, and board-level stakeholders

  • Hands-on, solutions-focused, and able to operate effectively in a dynamic SME setting
