Sharp Consultancy are delighted to be working with a public sector organisation based within Sheffield in sourcing a qualified Financial Accountant into their established finance team.
The team are responsible for the delivery of professional financial and accounting advice and decision support services to the wider business and external stakeholders combined with also ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory financial requirements.
The Financial Reporting and Compliance team is responsible for statutory financial reporting, the integrity of financial transactions, financial compliance, external regulatory compliance (e.g. tax) and treasury management.
You will be required to work collaboratively as part of a central Finance Team, ensuring operational excellence and consistency of practice; responding effectively to stakeholder requirements and delivering support and information in a timely and efficient manner.
Duties/responsibilities will include:
*To provide specialist financial accounting support: - ensure financial transactions are accounted for in line with the relevant accounting standards/regulations
*Appropriate financial controls are operated
*Provide advice and support on technical issues in relation to the accounting and tax treatment of financial transactions with regards to internal and external regulations
*Review activity within the subsidiary companies; preparing subsidiary Financial Statements
*Support the development and delivery of technical training to Finance and other relevant areas with respect to financial compliance, accounting standards and tax.
*As part of a local management group, work across Professional Services to deliver operational excellence and continuous improvement in relation to Finance and accounting processes, for example identifying non-compliance and working with colleagues to implement appropriate financial controls and policies.
*To manage the effective provision of support and delivery of processes relevant to the role, e.g.: period end reporting, regulatory reporting, control and compliance activities relating to both internal and external audit.
*To develop and maintain partnerships with both external organisations and internal staff; to enhance the service offer and provide expert advice on relevant policies and procedures, for example working with internal and external auditors and tax advisors.
*To lead and develop area/service specific initiatives/projects to deliver operational excellence and ensure the business is at the forefront of providing effective accounting activities, reporting and decision support.
*To advise line manager on issues affecting your area of responsibility; produce and present papers/ report as appropriate to support operational and strategic decision making.
*To develop sensitive and/or complex communications on behalf of the service/ function ensuring that projects, initiatives or operational matters are delivered via the most appropriate medium (e.g. social media, online etc).
*To maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive issues with appropriate tact and diplomacy, working in accordance with data protection legislation.
*To motivate, lead and mentor staff where required; provide general guidance, coaching and support, developing their skills and knowledge.
*To provide cover and support across Financial Reporting and Compliance, deputising as required.
