Interim Finance Manager

Location: Sheffield (Hybrid – office-based with some WFH flexibility)

Start: January

Salary: Competitive day rate / FTC (pro-rata)

Eligibility: Applicants must have full Right to Work in the UK

We are recruiting on behalf of a successful SME based in Sheffield, seeking an experienced Interim Finance Manager to provide cover for an extended period of absence. This assignment will run for a small number of months and requires someone who can confidently take ownership of the finance function from day one.

Working closely with the CEO and the Board, you will oversee all core finance activity for the business, supported by a full-time Accounts Assistant. The business uses SAGE, so prior experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production of monthly management accounts, including commentary and variance analysis
  • Preparation of YTD financials and supporting schedules
  • Lead on the upcoming annual audit, including liaison with external auditors
  • Oversee VAT returns, reconciliations, and submissions
  • Payroll administration and coordination with the external payroll provider
  • Ensure robust financial controls, processes, and compliance across the function
  • Supporting and supervising the Accounts Assistant to ensure accurate and timely transactional work
  • Preparation of financial reports for the CEO and Board, providing insight and recommendations
  • Management of supplier payments, bank reconciliations, and month-end close

About You

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or equivalent experience within an SME environment
  • Proven experience in a Finance Manager, Company Accountant or similar role
  • Strong working knowledge of SAGE
  • Hands-on, adaptable, and able to operate confidently in a small-business setting
  • Able to commute to Sheffield on a daily basis (hybrid, but not remote)
  • Available from January for the full interim period
  • Must have full eligibility to work in the UK
