Production Accountant

Job description

Sharp Consultancy is working exclusively on behalf of a well-established, long-standing manufacturing business as they look to recruit a Production Accountant, within a newly created role.

 

The business operates in a traditional manufacturing setting, working standalone, but supported and part of a wider group, the businesses sitting around 15 million, are now in the need of a Production accountant, who can really get hands on with the active WIP, reviewing costs, Bill of materials and feeding all information to the finance manager and production manager.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Own and produce clear, meaningful daily, weekly, and monthly production and financial reports that people actually use

  • Turn production data into practical KPIs that support real decision-making on the shop floor and in management meetings

  • Take a hands-on role in job costing, standard costing, and understanding cost variances

  • Manage and improve visibility of work-in-progress (WIP) and inventory, helping keep control of cash and materials

  • Provide clear cost insight to support operational leaders in improving margins and performance

  • Analyse labour, material, overhead, and machine utilisation to identify efficiency and cost-saving opportunities

  • Play a key role in month-end close and the preparation of management accounts

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Actively contributes to improving profitability, production efficiency, and financial controls across the business

 

About You

  • You’re a hands-on production or management accountant with solid experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment

  • You may be qualified by experience or professionally qualified (CIMA / ACCA) — what matters most is what you can do

  • You understand how costs really flow through a factory, from materials and labour to overheads and WIP

  • You’re comfortable working with production teams and can translate numbers into practical, commercial insight

  • You enjoy getting into the detail, spotting inefficiencies, and helping the business improve margins

  • You’re confident working with various systems and Excel to analyse and present data clearly

  • You’re proactive, organised, and able to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing setting

  • You care about accuracy but also about impact — your work helps people make better decisions
