Management Accountant

Job description

Sharp Consultancy is working exclusively on behalf of a well-established and rapidly growing wholesale distribution business based on the outskirts of Barnsley, to recruit a Management Accountant.

 

The business operates in a fast-paced commercial environment, supplying products into UK and export markets, and has a strong track record of growth with ambitious plans for the coming years. The finance function is central to this journey, and this role offers clear progression to Financial Controller for the right individual.

 

The Role

Working closely with the Financial Director and the wider finance team, you will have exposure to the full accounts function and play a key role in strengthening processes, controls, and reporting as the business continues to scale.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the month-end process, ensuring accurate and timely management accounts

  • Preparation of trial balances, balance sheets, accruals and prepayments

  • Closing down ledgers at month end and posting journals as required

  • Assisting with budgets, forecasts, and year-end audit processes

  • Producing supplier payment schedules (UK and overseas)

  • Supporting purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control, banking and bank reconciliations

  • Oversight of credit card and staff expense reconciliations

  • Supporting the Financial Director with ad-hoc projects and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Ensuring financial controls, policies, and compliance are maintained

  • Reviewing and improving finance systems and processes to drive efficiency

 

About You

  • CIMA / ACCA qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience

  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data

  • Previous experience in a junior management accounting or similar

  • Comfortable working in a hands-on SME environment

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and keen to develop and progress
