Financial Controller

Job description

Sharp Consultancy are working with a successful private equity–backed business based in Sheffield, who are seeking an exceptional Financial Controller to help drive the next stage of their journey.

Rather than simply maintaining established processes, you’ll have the chance to build, refine, and modernise the financial infrastructure of the business.

The Role:

As Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in leading the finance function, ensuring robust financial management, and partnering with senior leadership to support strategic decision-making. This is a hands-on, influential position suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

This is an ideal opportunity for a Financial Controller who wants to take full ownership and shape a high-performing finance team that can support ambitious growth plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the finance function.

  • Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts.

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with financial regulations.

  • Partner with the senior leadership team and private equity stakeholders to provide financial insights and support value creation.

  • Manage year-end processes, including audit and statutory accounts.

  • Drive continuous improvement across financial systems, reporting, and processes.

  • Lead and develop a small, high-performing finance team.

About You:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).

  • Experience within a private equity–backed, fast-growth, or similarly dynamic environment.

  • Strong technical accounting skills combined with commercial acumen.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.

  • A proactive, hands-on approach with a drive for improvement and efficiency.

What’s on Offer:

  • £70,000 - £75,000 salary plus benefits.

  • Hybrid working and flexibility.

  • A chance to work at the heart of a transformative private equity growth journey.

  • Genuine opportunities for career progression as the business scales
