Interim Finance Manager – SME

Location: Sheffield (Hybrid working – mix of office and home-based)

Start Date: January

Contract: Interim / Fixed-Term (pro-rata)

Rate: £200 - £250 p/d

Right to Work: UK eligibility required

 

An established and growing SME in Sheffield is looking to appoint an Interim Finance Manager to support the business during a period of planned absence within the finance function. This is a short-term assignment for several months, suited to a confident and capable finance professional who can step in and lead from the outset.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Board, you will take responsibility for the end-to-end finance operation. You’ll be supported by an Accounts Assistant and will play a key role in maintaining financial stability, oversight, and reporting throughout the interim period. The organisation operates on SAGE, making prior hands-on experience essential.

 

Key Duties:

  • Full ownership of monthly management accounts, including analysis and commentary

  • Preparation of year-to-date accounts and financial schedules

  • Leading the annual audit process and acting as the main point of contact for external auditors

  • Managing VAT returns, reconciliations, and submissions

  • Overseeing payroll processes in collaboration with an external payroll provider

  • Ensuring effective financial controls, governance, and compliance

  • Day-to-day management and support of the Accounts Assistant

  • Producing clear and insightful financial reports for senior leadership and the Board

  • Responsibility for supplier payments, bank reconciliations, and month-end close

 

Candidate Profile:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent SME experience

  • Previous experience in a Finance Manager, Company Accountant, or similar position

  • Strong working knowledge of SAGE accounting software

  • Practical, flexible, and comfortable operating in a hands-on SME environment

  • Able to attend the Sheffield office regularly (hybrid working, not fully remote)

  • Available to start in January and commit to the full interim duration

  • Full right to work in the UK

 

This role would suit an experienced interim finance professional who enjoys delivering immediate impact, providing leadership, and ensuring business continuity during transitional periods.
