Accounts Assistant - PT (20-25 hours) - Wakefield

Job description

Working as part of a small finance function and reporting directly to the Finance Controller you will take responsibility for most areas of transactional finance in a part time role covering between 20-25 hours per week (ideally 5 days per week).

Working in a fantastic and supportive environment within an ever changing and developing organisation you will add key support to all areas of the finance function as needed.

Duties and responsibilities are to include:

* Entry of purchase transactions.
* Take responsibility for credit control and decide on course of action to be taken with problem debtors in conjunction with Directors.
* Processing and issuing of supplier payments via BACS batch payments & online banking software including issuing of remittance advices.
* Preparation and submission of VAT returns.
* Process monthly payroll and issue payments to staff, pension scheme and HMRC.
* Maintain Payroll records and process starters, leavers and changes.
* Maintain a neat and orderly filing system of all of the company's financial records, including creating scans and electronic copies wherever possible.
* Logging delivery notes and supplier invoices, to be matched against purchase orders issued and entry of supplier invoices on Sage purchase ledger.
* Undertake bank reconciliation on Xero, using online banking links.
* Identification and reporting of any anomalies / exceptional items, to be brought to the Directors' attention.
* Communicate with suppliers where purchase invoice queries exist and resolve discrepancies.
* Assist with the answering and handling of incoming telephone calls in a professional and polite manner.

This role will suit individuals who have the following skills and experiences:

* Strong background in general transactional accounts roles previously
* Experience of using Xero along with Excel would be an advantage along with good general IT skills
* You will have a flexible approach to your work, willing to get involved and assist with other needs in finance where needed
