An exclusive search assignment was undertaken to secure an exceptional candidate for a newly created senior commercial finance role – key to delivering a strategic turnaround programme - at Ossett-based global supplier of technical plastics products Carclo PLC.

THE CHALLENGE

Seen as a business changing role, the new Head of Commercial Finance would work alongside the board to successfully deliver a challenging business improvement plan. As well as a very strict set of criteria that, as a listed plc, the business needed to satisfy in identifying a suitable candidate, the recruitment process was set in motion just as lockdown restrictions were put in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

THE SOLUTION

In order to identify a high calibre individual that demonstrated the skills, competencies and experience needed to work with the board to deliver business critical insight and analysis, drive improvements in planning, budgeting and forecasting to support strategic decision making as part of the business improvement plan, a careful review of
our extensive candidate database was undertaken alongside a robust search and selection process to reach talented individuals that may not currently be seeking a new position.

With lockdown measures restricting face to face contact, the recruitment process was kept on track through effective utilisation of digital interview platforms to conduct pre-screening interviews enabling a high quality shortlist of candidates to be presented to the client within the proposed timeframe. Having removed the need for the client to sift through CVs and review competencies against a job description and profile, Carclo was able to focus its full attention during the interview on selected the talented individual from an outstanding field most suited to the role and the business.

During the final interview process, a change in circumstances for the preferred candidate required that they relocate away from the area. Having successfully introduced effective remote working procedures during lockdown, this proved not to be a deal breaker and Carclo were able to continue to move forward with their first choice candidate and secure the best person for the role.
