Management Accountant

Job description

This is an excellent opportunity based in York for a Part-Qualified or Qualified Management Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) to join a well-established and growing property business with an impressive portfolio and ambitious expansion plans.

The role is ideally suited to an ambitious finance professional who is looking to further develop their management accounting expertise within the property sector, whilst gaining broad exposure to commercial finance, business partnering, and property portfolio performance analysis.

Working within a supportive and forward-thinking finance team, you will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting operational decision-making, and helping to drive business performance across a diverse property portfolio. The position offers excellent long-term career prospects, with opportunities to broaden both your technical accounting knowledge and commercial understanding of the real estate sector.

As Management Accountant, you will report directly to the Finance Manager and develop a thorough understanding of the company's property operations, financial performance, and key commercial drivers. Core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Producing monthly management accounts for a portfolio of properties and business entities, including detailed variance analysis and commentary.

  • Assisting with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.

  • Preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies.

  • Posting and reviewing accruals, prepayments, and other month-end journals.

  • Monitoring property income, service charge expenditure, and operational costs, providing meaningful financial insight to stakeholders.

  • Supporting month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

  • Assisting with statutory reporting requirements and audit preparation.

  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial data within accounting systems.

  • Producing ad hoc financial analysis and performance reports to support strategic decision-making.

  • Working closely with property managers, asset managers, and operational teams to provide financial support and commercial guidance.

  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements, cost efficiencies, and enhanced financial controls across the portfolio.

As you become more established within the role, there will be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities, contribute to strategic projects, and play an active part in supporting the continued growth and development of the property portfolio.

Ideally the successful candidate will be either Part-Qualified or Fully Qualified (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) and will possess previous experience within a Management Accountant or similar finance role. Experience within the property, real estate, or related sectors would be advantageous, but not essential.

You will be ideally able to demonstrate strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial information effectively to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
