Management Accountant

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity based in Selby for a Part-Qualified or Qualified Management Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) to join an established and successful retail business with a respected reputation and clear plans for future growth.

The role is well suited to a finance professional looking to build upon their management accounting experience within a commercially focused environment, whilst gaining wider exposure to financial analysis, stakeholder engagement, and business performance reporting.

Working as part of a collaborative finance function, you will play an integral role in delivering accurate financial information, providing valuable commercial insight, and supporting the continued success of the business. The position offers genuine scope for professional development, allowing you to enhance both your technical accounting expertise and commercial understanding within a dynamic retail environment.

  • As Management Accountant, you will report directly to the Finance Manager and develop a detailed understanding of the company's operations, financial performance, and key business drivers. Core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Producing monthly management accounts, including detailed variance analysis and commentary on financial performance

  • Assisting with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections

  • Preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies

  • Posting and reviewing accruals, prepayments, and other month-end journals

  • Analysing sales trends, gross margins, stock performance, and operating costs to provide meaningful financial insight

  • Supporting month-end and year-end reporting processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting

  • Assisting with audit requirements and the preparation of supporting schedules and documentation

  • Maintaining the accuracy and reliability of financial data and reporting systems

  • Producing ad hoc financial analysis and management information to support operational and strategic decision-making

  • Building effective working relationships with departmental managers to provide financial guidance and challenge where appropriate

  • Identifying opportunities to enhance reporting processes, strengthen controls, and improve operational efficiencies

As you become more established within the role, there will be opportunities to broaden your responsibilities, contribute to business improvement initiatives, and support a range of commercial projects across the organisation.

Ideally, the successful candidate will be either Part-Qualified or Fully Qualified (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) and will possess previous experience within a Management Accountant or similar finance position. Experience gained within retail, FMCG, wholesale, distribution, or another commercially driven environment would be advantageous, but not essential.

You will ideally be able to demonstrate excellent analytical capability, a methodical approach to problem-solving, and the confidence to communicate financial information effectively to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
