Accountant

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen with a well-established independent accountancy practice in Barnsley. The firm has built a strong reputation across the local area and, with a close-knit team and loyal client base, is now looking to bring in a senior addition to the practice.

This is a key role within the business, working closely with the current senior leadership and taking responsibility across a broad portfolio of clients. You will be hands-on with the accounts work whilst also becoming a key point of contact for clients and an important part of the firm's continued development.

The role would suit an experienced Accountant who is looking for something beyond the traditional practice position. You will have genuine influence within a small firm, plenty of client exposure and the opportunity to play a significant part in shaping the future direction of the practice. For the right person, this could become a long-term career move with scope to take on increasing responsibility and have a real stake in where the firm goes next.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of clients across a range of sectors and business sizes

  • Preparing year-end accounts and statutory accounts

  • Preparing management accounts and providing clients with meaningful financial information

  • Preparing personal and corporation tax returns

  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients and developing strong working relationships

  • Supporting clients with accounting, tax and wider commercial matters

  • Reviewing work and providing support to more junior members of the team where required

  • Working closely with the senior leadership of the practice on the day-to-day running of the business

  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and develop the firm's client offering

  • Taking an active role in the continued growth and development of the practice

Who You Are

  • An experienced Accountant with a solid background in accountancy practice

  • Comfortable managing your own portfolio and dealing directly with clients

  • Technically confident across accounts and tax

  • Commercially minded, with an interest in advising clients rather than simply producing the numbers

  • Someone who enjoys working in a smaller, personal environment where your contribution is visible

  • Looking for a position with genuine seniority, influence and long-term progression

Benefits

  • £45,000 - 50,000 salary

  • Significant client exposure and autonomy

  • The opportunity to work closely with the senior leadership of the firm

  • Scope to take on increasing responsibility as the practice continues to develop

  • A long-term opportunity to become a key figure in the future of the business

  • Close-knit working environment with a high level of autonomy
