Are companies prepared for a change in leadership?

Aaron Pepperday
Business Manager – Sheffield

How equipped are organisations in the region to deal with unexpected changes in personnel at a senior level?

Changes at the top level can come as a result of many reasons; retirement, leaving for a new role, sale of a business and unfortunately serious illness or even death.

When it comes to recruiting senior figures for an organisation and planning for the future, there is a huge amount that needs to be taken into consideration.

Making the right decision on who should take a company forward is business-critical and for many organisations, one which can be years in the planning. From small family run businesses to major PLCs, it is an issue which affects companies of all sizes but unfortunately for many, it may be something which isn’t given enough attention until its potentially too late.

Unfortunately for some companies, the downturn in the economy squeezed the resources that were invested in the identification and development of talent. Now as they are looking to play catch up, they could potentially run the risk of possibly facing a serious skills shortage or losing their more talented individuals to other employers.

Bringing new blood into an organisation or promoting a hungry individual is a huge opportunity and one which can potentially transform a business. With fresh ideas, different experience, an enhanced skills set and an alternative outlook, they can make an immediate impact and the rewards for the business can be huge.
